Tina and Rose called me from London. At long last, as a gay couple they were able to get married legally and were making it official at the Mandarin Hotel in Manhattan, overlooking a snowy Central Park and Columbus Circle.

What fun! Never have I got to make up two brides for just one wedding. Theirs!

Since one of the brides had never worn makeup and the other wanted to improve on her look, I decided to keep the makeup simple, classic and sophisticated.

Ten days after their wedding, we did a makeup lesson. Watch out London!

I’m looking forward to working as a makeup artist on many LGBT weddings in the future.

She said she would be having photos taken for the New York Times last weekend and she had a feeling it would be a feature in the Vows section. I made her cab it over to me for a pro makeup job. Couldn’t let my girl have every day makeup for the Times. I look after my peeps.

But for the bride who wants a truly sophisticated look, this might not be the case. Sophisticated does not necessarily mean a lot of makeup, ala Kim Kardashian. Just the opposite, in fact.

A light eye, which might comprise of a stronger brighter brow, with a light polishing of foundation that includes some sculpting and contouring. Red lips could also leave a trail of kisses on the cheeks of your wedding guests. This way you will know who you have spent time with. ;-).

A glowing mature skin.

This is what I think. Bridal makeup should be peachy, maybe a little beachy, but always classic in it’s nature. Rows of lashes and extreme eye liners are fabulous on the editorial pages of magazines but fast forward twenty years and look back at these photos.

Do you want to look dated or just fresh and classically beautiful? An ivory skinned visage and or even a bronzed and shimmery face will always stare back at you and say  “healthy”, “now” and “wow”.

There are many people who call themselves makeup artists out there, but the best of the best will always make your skin glow and your eyes pop.

A makeup artist should be there to make you look the best you have ever looked and steer you away from anything hip or garish.
